Description: Karissa McCallum L.Ac, CD(DONA) will discuss how acupuncture, herbs, essential oils, and other modalities can be used throughout every stage of bringing a baby into this world, including some recommendations for creating a trauma-informed birth plan. (In reality, a huge part of that starts with choosing the right providers and location.) Whether you support families on this journey, are trying to conceive, are newly pregnant, or are in the postpartum phase, there will be something for you. About Karissa: Karissa is the only licensed acupuncturist and DONA certified doula in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago, IL. With a background in psychology, and a belief in the mind-body connection, Karissa helps people achieve their best physical and mental health in an empathetic and non-judgmental way. She began working with pregnant patients in graduate school and became pregnant herself for the first time in October 2013. Karissa now has four pregnancies, births, and postpartums under her belt, including serving hundreds of others as an acupuncturist and/or doula. As her work continues, her passion grows for helping other providers be trauma-informed and educating families on the importance of having trauma-informed providers.
